Sri Lanka sack selectors as national team cruise toward a whitewash series defeat

Sri Lanka's Sports Minister Faiszer Mushtapa acknowledged the contributions of the previous panel led by Graeme Labrooy, "and thanked them for the services rendered towards Sri Lanka Cricket, as national selectors

Sri Lanka's minister of sports, Faiszer Musthapa, on Sunday (November 25), sacked their selectors and appointed a new selection panel after observing Sri Lanka’s poor performance against England as the Lankan Lions are headed toward a whitewash defeat in the ongoing Test series.

It is learnt that Faiszer Musthapa’s decision comes after recommendations of the Cricket Advisory Committee. On Day three of the final Test, Sri Lanka was reeling at 53-4, chasing an unlikely 327 to avoid another defeat.

The selection panel headed by former Test bowler Graeme Labrooy and also including Gamini Wickremasinghe, Eric Upashantha, Chandika Hathurusingha and Jeryl Woutersz were only appointed in June.

Sri Lanka's Sports Minister Faiszer Mushtapa acknowledged the contributions of the previous panel led by Graeme Labrooy, "and thanked them for the services rendered towards Sri Lanka Cricket, as national selectors," a release stated.

The newly appointed selection panel’s first assignment will be the selection of Sri Lanka's squad for their upcoming tour of New Zealand.

Sri Lanka and England are slated to play two Tests, three ODIs and a one-off T20I starting December 15.
