Sri Lanka And New Zealand To Play Rare 6-Day Test Match: Here's Why

A notable feature of Sri Lanka vs New Zealand Test series is the inclusion of a rare six-day Test match for the first Test.

Sri Lanka is all set to host New Zealand for their upcoming two-match Test series, starting on September 18 in Galle. Both Test matches will be held at Sri Lanka's Galle International Stadium.

A notable feature of the Sri Lanka vs New Zealand Test series is the inclusion of a rare six-day Test match for the first Test.

Test matches typically last for 5 days, but the first Test between Sri Lanka and New Zealand, to be held in Galle, will extend to 6 days. Here's why...

The first Test between Sri Lanka and New Zealand will be extended to 6 days, starting on September 18, because of the presidential elections in Sri Lanka.

A rest day is scheduled for September 21, with play resuming on September 22 and 23.

If the match concludes within 3 days, the rest day will be unnecessary. This is the first instance of a rest day being included in a Test match in 16 years, with the last occurrence being during the 2008 Test between Bangladesh and Sri Lanka, which was also due to elections. Back then, a rest day was observed on December 29 due to a parliamentary election.
