Talking about the game, Ishan Kishan and Hardik Pandya produced top-notch batting performances and revived India’s innings. However both batters missed out on scoring their centuries, and they ended up playing the fine knocks. Kishan (82 off 81 balls) and Pandya (87 off 90 balls) put together 138 runs for the fifth wicket to lift their side from 66 for 4 in 14.1 overs at the Pallekele International Cricket Stadium on Saturday.
Shaheen Shah Afridi was the star with the ball for Pakistan as he scalped important wickets of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. Shreyas Iyer (14) and Shubman Gill (10) also failed to score big in the first innings and fell cheaply. Since rain played spoilsport, Pakistan could not manage to bat. No result meant that the Men in Green finished their Group A proceedings with 3 points and assured themselves a place in the Super Four of the tournament.
India on the other hand, have one point from a game and are at second place in Group A. The top two teams of the points table will make it to the Super Fours. The Men in Blue have to win the game against Nepal in the final Group A match which is slated to be played at the same venue on September 4. The winner will join Pakistan as the second team from the Group to proceed further in the competition.
