SA vs NED Highlights: Netherlands Take South Africa's Breath Away, Win The Game By 38 runs

It was their skipper Scott Edwards who starred with the bat after scoring a brilliant half-century while their bowlers also put up a solid performance.

The Netherlands team scripted history as they caused one of the biggest upsets in the cricket World Cup history. In the ongoing World Cup clash, they defeated South Africa by 38 runs at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association (HPCA) Stadium, Dharamsala on Tuesday. It was their skipper Scott Edwards who starred with the bat after scoring a brilliant half-century while their bowlers also put up a solid performance.

South African team asked the Netherlands to bat first in Dharamsala on Tuesday. In a rain-hit game, the Proteas’ bowlers put up pressure on the Netherlands side by reducing them to 140/7 in the 34th over. However, skipper Scott Edwards played a brilliant knock of 78 off 69 balls, powering his team to a fighting total of 245/8. He also built a stand of 64 runs off just 37 balls with former SA star Roelof van der Merwe. Aryan Dutt also smashed three huge sixes and contributed to his team’s total.

For South Africa, Kagiso Rabada scalped two wickets while Marco Jansen and Gerald Coetzee picked a wicket each as the Netherlands were four down with 50 on the board. Sybrand Engelbrecht and Teja Nidamanuru then tried to revive the Netherlands’ innings by putting together  32 runs before Rabada provided South Africa with another breakthrough.  Since the rain played spoilsport, the game was reduced to a 43-over-per-side contest.

South Africa started on well as they got a flying start to the chase with skipper Temba Bavuma and Quinton de Kock building a steady stand. But then they kept losing wickets from 36/0 to 44/4 between the eighth and 12th overs. It was David Miller who did try to revive the innings but failed as he departed after scoring 43 runs. Apart from Miller, no other batter stood there in the middle to face the bowling attack of the Netherlands. As a result, they got all out for just 207 runs.

Logan van Beek took three wickets while the likes of Meekeren, van der Merwe, and Bas de Lede ended up picking two wickets each and Ackermann picked up one wicket for the Netherlands.
