Sourav Ganguly Officially Takes Charge As 39th BCCI President

‘Dada’ is the 1st India cricketer in 65 years to become the BCCI president and 2nd only India cricketer to serve as the president of BCCI

Former India cricketer Sourav Ganguly officially took charge as the President of Board of Control for Cricket (BCCI), becoming the first former skipper to hold the post full-time since Maharajkumar of Vizianagram in 1954. With the Indian cricket already in excellent shape, Ganguly will enjoy a tenure without interventions, following the exit of Committee of Administrators (CoA). ‘Dada’ is the 1st India cricketer in 65 years to become the BCCI president and 2nd only India cricketer to serve as the president of BCCI. The incoming of ‘Dada’ ends reign of Supreme Court-appointed Vinod Rai and his fellow committee member Diana Edulji, who served in the CoA for 3 years and will be getting around 3.5 crores each. “It was a good experience and a long journey, didn’t think that the journey would last so long, but I am happy with the end result that elections and office-bearers are coming back and BCCI will be run by them now,” Diana Edulji told reporters at BCCI headquarters after the final COA meeting on Tuesday. Alongwith Ganguly, Union Home Minister Amit Shah's son Jay Shah was made the secretary. Kerala's Jayesh George was appointed as BCCI Joint Secretary, while Mahim Verma of Uttarakhand became the new vice-president. Former BCCI President Anurag Thakur's younger brother Arun Dhumal became the treasurer. Many former India cricketers like Sachin Tendulkar, VVS Laxman, Virender Sehwag, Yuvraj Singh and Harbhajan Singh have congratulated their former teammate ‘Dadi’ for his remarkable achievement. In an exclusive interview to ABP News, Sourav Ganguly had revealed that he had never expressed his aspirations for the post and was not aware of his name being considered for the job until the official announcement. “I had never expressed any kind of aspirations to become the BCCI President and I never spoke or requested anyone regarding the post. Especially with me, good things happen in my life in such manner every time." said Ganguly.
