Shahid Afridi 'fully confident' Pakistan can bounce back, win World Cup after dismal loss to Windies
In their opener against the Caribbean nation, Pakistan were bombarded by some lethal short-pitched deliveries by the Windies pace attack.
Former Pakistani skipper and all-rounder Shahid Afridi has exuded confidence that Pakistan team under the captaincy of Sarfaraz Ahmed will bounce back and win the ICC World Cup 2019 despite the humiliating loss to West Indies in their tournament opener.
Following the defeat, the Men in Green faced the music of their passionate fans and severe criticism from most veterans of the game.
However, few did express their support towards the side to make a strong comeback. And Afridi was part of the latter group as he urged the team to build confidence and strive for a win in their second tie, against England.
"I’m fully confident in our team and their capabilities & truly believe they can go on to win this World Cup. Wishing the best of luck to our boys including @SarfarazA_54. Early games are crucial in building up confidence & momentum; we should strive for a win against England 2day," wrote Afridi on Monday minutes after the kick off to the England-Pakistan tie at Trent Bridge.
In their opener against the Caribbean nation, Pakistan were bombarded by some lethal short-pitched deliveries by the Windies pace attack. Andre Russell led from the front and inspired his skipper Jason Holder and debutant Oshane Thomas to bundle out the Asian powerhouse for a paltry 105 in just 21.4 overs - their lowest total in World Cup since 1992.
