Rohit Sharma injury update: Indian cricket team faces a major setback ahead of their high-stakes T20 World Cup 2024 match against Pakistan on Sunday (June 9). In a concerning development for Indian fans, captain Rohit Sharma was forced to retire hurt midway through IND vs IRE T20 World Cup 2024 match on Wednesday (June 5) at the Nassau County International Cricket Stadium, New York.

After playing a crucial captain's knock and scoring a fiery fifty (52 runs off 37 balls), Rohit had to leave the field after being struck on the elbow by Joshua Little's delivery. The Indian captain being retired hurt has raised worries about his availability for the upcoming crucial IND vs PAK T20 World Cup 2024 match on Sunday.

Despite being struck on the elbow, Indian captain Rohit Sharma managed to continue batting for a few more overs. However, due to increasing pain and discomfort, he had to retire hurt before the start of the 10th over.

Post IND vs IRE T20 World Cup 2024 match, Rohit revealed that his injury isn't that serious. "Yeah, just a little sore (the arm)," said the India captain.

Rohit Sharma displayed patience on the slow and turning pitch at Nassau, completing his fifty in 36 balls. He was accompanied by a new opening partner, Virat Kohli. However, Kohli could only manage to score 1 run off 5 balls before being dismissed. Despite Kohli's early exit, Rohit's composed innings laid a strong foundation for India's performance.

India defeat Ireland for 8th time in T20 International cricket 

Team India secured a thumping eight-wicket victory over Ireland in IND vs IRE T20 World Cup 2024 match in New York. After losing the toss, Ireland batted first and scored 96 runs, losing all 10 wickets in 16 overs. In reply, India successfully chased the target with eight wickets in hand. The next match for India will be against Pakistan on the same ground on June 9.
