India's tour to Sri Lanka for three T20Is and as many ODIs will be Gautam Gambhir's first assignment as head coach, making the IND vs SL white-ball series very important. Shreyas Iyer, who was dropped from the BCCI contract list earlier this year for not playing domestic cricket, is expected to make a comeback.
His performance against England was underwhelming, but he led KKR to victory in IPL 2024 as their captain. Given his current form and vast experience in ODIs, Iyer's return to the Indian team is considered likely.
KL Rahul's return to the national team for the ODI series against Sri Lanka is also almost certain. The star batter has not played any match for India since the Test against England in January 2024.
