Ranji Trophy: Delhi bowl out Vidarbha for 183 but lose Dhawan cheaply in reply

Chennai: Delhi bowled out Vidarbha for 183 runs in their first innings and reached 12/1 after losing Shikhar Dhawan at the end of the first day of a Ranji Trophy cricket match here on Tuesday.

All-rounder Sumit Narwal (4/38) picked up four wickets for Delhi, who lost the wicket of out-of-favour India opener Shikhar Dhawan (6) in response at the Sri Sivasubramaniya Nadar College of Engineering Ground.

Delhi skipper Gautam Gambhir (2) and Pradeep Sangwan (4) were at the crease at stumps.

Vidarbha's batting crumbled from the beginning after Delhi won the toss and chose to field. Only one batsman Shalabh Shrivastava (62) went passed the fifty-run mark.

Shrikant Wagh (46) was the only other successful batsman of the day in a Karnataka-Saurashtra tie at the Dhruve Pandove Stadium, in Patiala.

Karnataka were bowled out for 200 runs in their first innings on the first day against Saurashtra.

But they responded strongly to the setback, reducing Saurashtra to 19/2. Karnataka skipper R. Vinay Kumar took both the wickets.

For Karnataka, Manish Pandey top scored with 75. Shreyas Gopal contributed a valuable 38 in the lower order.

Young off-spinner Vandit Jivrajani (3/41) and debutant Jay Chauhan (3/52) were the most successful bowlers.

In Vizianagaram, Saurabh Tiwary (88) and Ishank Jaggi (80 not out) propelled Jharkhand to 251/ 4 against Assam.

Assam won the toss and chose to bowl and were rewarded with three early wickets. But Tiwary-Jaggi put on 151 runs for the fourth wicket.

In Wayanad, Biplab Samantaray starred with a fine 89-run to pull them to 311/9 against Maharashtra.

Odisha were in trouble early on at 32/3 but recovered partly due to Samantaray's 98-run seventh-wicket stand with Deepak Behara (58).

Pacer Anupam Sanklecha (4/75) lead the bowling charge supported Mohsin Sayyad (3/58).
