Ranji Trophy, Day 1, Group C: Bist and Mavi Shine; Rajasthan and UP dominate on day one

Under -19 star all-rounder Shivam Mavi took four wickets in his 10 over spell, helping Uttar Pradesh to bundle up Goa for 152 on day one

Jharkhand vs Assam

It was due to the opening batting pair K Deobrat and Nazim Siddiqui’s massive 115 run partnership for the first wicket that helped Assam put a huge total of 266 runs at the loss of six wickets. However, despite having a good partnership, Deobrat failed to score a fifty as the right-handed batsman got dimissed on 43, just seven runs short of a half-century. While, Ashish Kumar, AR Yadav and Aron are yet to bat, Utkarsh Singh (63*) and As Roy (29*) will look forward to add some more runs for their squad. Jharkhand’s RL Mali, who picked up two wickets, was the highest wicket taker among bowlers on day 1. 

Top Performer: Utkarsh Singh is still batting at the crease. The left-handed batsman scored 63 runs in 154 balls, hitting nine fours.

Odisha vs Haryana

Odisha's left-handed batsman Anurag Sarangi, with 17 fours and two sixes scored a blistering 114 runs in 190 balls. The 25-year-old young batsman was the highest scorer for his team. Apart from Sarangi, none of the other batsman could score more than 30 runs on day one. However, Shantanu Mishra (30*) along with his partner DB Pradhan (7*), have the opportunity to change this stat on day 2 of the Test match. Skipper Samantray, failed to impress with the bat. The 29-year-old managed to score just nine runs in 43 balls, with a single boundary to his name. Odisha managed to put 230/6 in 89.3 Overs on Day 1.

Rajasthan vs Jammu and Kashmir

Team Jammu and Kashmir's decision to field first proved to be a complete disaster as for Rajasthan, the batting duo of CD Bist and AL Menaria dominated the bowlers on day 1. While Rajasthan managed to score 300/3 in 90 Overs, both the batsman contributed crucial 191 runs to the total score of their squad. Bist, who is still at the crease after facing 268 deliveries, managed to score 146 runs, hitting 22 fours at a decent strike rate of 54.47.

Top Performer: Rajasthan’s wicketkeeper and right-handed batsman Dinesh Bist scored a much needed hundred for his squad, allowing his team to pot a total of 300 plus runs on the opening day.

Goa vs Uttar Pradesh

Uttar Pradesh lead by one run with nine wickets remaining on day on after getting Goa out for 152. For Goa, it was Under-19 star all-rounder Shivam Mavi who took the maximum number of four wickets in his 10 over spell on day one. Apart for him, AS Rajpoot, Yash Dayal and Saurabh Kumar took two wickets each. It was a disappointing performance by Goa, as for them DW Misal (43) was the highest scoring batsman.
