New Delhi: Former India batsman Pravin Amre, who honed the skills of the likes of Ajinkya Rahane and Robin Uthappa, is set to become the batting coach of the Indian cricket team while former MRF Pace Foundation chief coach TA Sekar is the frontrunner for the post of the bowling coach, according to ABP News’ sources.

BCCI appointed Kumble as head coach of the Indian cricket team for a period of one year on Thursday and announced that support staff would be named in a few days time in consultation with Kumble.

The race to become India’s fielding coach is more open with several names doing the round. Kumble’s former teammate Robin Singh, former Karnataka Ranji Trophy player J Arun Kumar and Railways’ Abhay Sharma are among the favourites.

It has been learnt that Zaheer Khan was also approached to take up the responsibility of guiding India’s bowlers but the recently retired pacers is not too keen. Another former India pacer Venkatesh Prasad, however, is interested in the job and his closeness with Kumble is also seen as a factor that might turn the decision in his favour.

Prasad is also the chairman of junior selection committee and his appointment as bowling coach will disturb the existing set up. For this particular reason, some BCCI members are not in favour of giving Prasad the bowling coach’s job.
