New Zealand's Star Pacer Ruled Out Of T20 World Cup 2024
New Zealand pacer Kyle Jamieson will be required to take an extended break from cricket to recover from a stress fracture in his back.
Kyle Jamieson ruled out of T20 World Cup 2024: New Zealand cricket has been dealt a significant blow with the news that fast bowler Kyle Jamieson will miss the upcoming T20 World Cup 2024. This setback is a result of Jamieson's recurring back injuries, which necessitate a year-long absence from cricket. The Kiwi pacer could potentially miss up to a year of cricket due to another stress fracture detected in his back.
29-year-old Jamieson, who demonstrated his exceptional bowling by claiming six wickets in the first Test against South Africa, suffered from back pain that forced him to be sidelined for NZ vs SA 2nd Test in Hamilton.
The star pacer underwent scans which revealed a stress fracture in his back, reminiscent of a previous injury for which he had undergone surgery the year before. Fortunately, surgery is not deemed necessary at this point, but Jamieson will be required to take an extended break from cricket to recover.
In an exclusive conversation with ESPNcricinfo, Jamieson expressed his optimism about making a strong comeback after overcoming this setback.
"The last few days have been some of my most challenging but I am hugely grateful for the support I've received from my partner, family, team-mates, support staff and medical professionals. I know injuries are part of life as a cricketer and at my age, I am hopeful I still have many more playing days ahead of me," Jamieson said in a statement.
"I've got a bit of a roadmap as to how to manage it. I know some of the hurdles I'll have to overcome, probably more mentally and emotionally, the physical side is the easy part. You just rest and build back up. It's almost autopilot in a way," he was quoted as saying by ESPNcricinfo.
New Zealand coach Gary Stead conveyed that the team management stands firmly behind Jamieson throughout his recovery journey.
