'I Can Do A 750KG Leg Press': Shami Claims No Other Cricketer Lifts Heavier Weight Than Him
Mohammed Shami emerged as Team India's leading wicket-taker in the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup 2023.
Indian fast bowler Mohammed Shami, known for his exceptional line and length, opened up about his rigorous fitness regime. Despite being acclaimed for his outstanding performances in the 2023 World Cup, Shami remains modest about his achievements and doesn't actively showcase them on social media.
In a recent conversation with Aaj Tak, the 33-year-old shared insights into his workout routine, claiming to lift the heaviest weights among all Indian players in the gym. He asserted himself as one of the strongest in world cricket, mentioning his capability to manage a leg press of up to 750 kgs. Shami highlighted his preference for privacy, explaining why such aspects might not be widely known due to his reluctance to post about them online.
'I Don’t Like To Post On Social Media': Shami
"No other cricketer lifts heavier weights than me in the gym; I don’t like to post on social media so people don’t know. I can do a 750KG leg press," revealed Mohammed Shami during the conversation.

Initially benched in the ICC ODI World Cup 2023, Shami got his chance when Hardik Pandya's injury led to his inclusion. Seizing the opportunity, he emerged as the tournament's leading wicket-taker, claiming an impressive 24 wickets in seven matches. His exceptional performance included three five-wicket hauls, notably a standout 7-wicket haul against New Zealand in the semi-final.
Despite his impactful start in the final by dismissing David Warner with his first ball, India fell short. Shami's contributions earned him a nomination for the ICC Men’s Player of the Month award for November 2023, alongside Australia’s Travis Head and Glenn Maxwell.
Currently on a break given by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) post-World Cup, Shami will soon join the Indian Test squad in South Africa. The expectations are high as India aim for their maiden Test series victory in South Africa, with Shami set to team up with Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj. The two Tests between South Africa and India are scheduled from December 26 to January 7.
