Mehidy Hasan Miraz's resilient half-centiury helped Bangladesh claw their way out of a precarious position and overturn a massive deficit against South Africa in the Dhaka Test.

Mehidy Hasan Miraz, the Bangladesh bowling all-rounder, scored a fighting half-century in the third innings of the ongoing Bangladesh vs South Africa Test as the Bangla Tigers posted a stunning comeback after conceding a 202-run lead in the second innings of the BAN vs SA Test at the Shere Bangla National Stadium, Dhaka.

Mehidy Hasan Miraz finished Day 3 of the BAN vs SA Test on an unbeaten 83 as he helped Bangladesh gain an 81-run lead over the Proteas. Notably, Miraz’s innings rescued Bangladesh from a potential loss by an innings at home.

Mehidy Hasan Miraz Helps Bangladesh Gain Lead Over South Africa

Opting to bat first on a sluggish Dhaka track, Bangladesh were rattled by the South African bowlers as they were bundled out for just 106 runs with Kagiso Rabada, Keshav Maharaj and Wiaan Mulder claiming three wickets each.

In reply, South Africa posted a strong total of 308 runs in the second innings after wicket-keeper Kyle Verreynne scored a scintillating century as he finished with 114 runs. With this, South Africa gained a massive 202 runs lead on a bowler-friendly track. Bangladesh were poor again with the bat as they were reduced to 112-6 in the third innings of the BAN vs SA Test.

However, Mehidy Hasan Miraz took the reins of Bangladesh’s batting in his hand and staged an impressive fightback by scoring a tenacious half-century while also stitching a 138-run partnership with Jaker Ali, helping Bangladesh wipe out their deficit and gain a considerable lead.

Bangladesh ended Day 3 on 283-7 leading by 81 runs after bad light stopped the play, eventually forcing the match officials to call off the remaining overs of play.

26-year-old Miraz also became the highest run-scorer and wicket-taker for Bangladesh in the ongoing World Test Championship (WTC) 2023-25 cycle having amassed over 500 runs and taken 34 wickets in 16 innings. He is only the third player to do so in a single WTC cycle in the history of WTC, along with England captain Ben Stokes and the star India all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja.
