Matt Henry Injury: New Zealand Pacer Forced To Off Field In World Cup Clash Against South Africa

Matt Henry Injury: The right-arm speedster was in the middle of an over but had to walk off the field with an injury.

Matt Henry, the New Zealand pacer, was forced to walk off the field midway in the middle of an over he was bowling during New Zealand's World Cup 2023 clash against South Africa in the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup 2023 in Pune on Wednesday (November 1). Henry bowled just three balls in his sixth over after which he complained of some discomfort and walked off. Jimmy Neesham had to complete the remaining over with Henry walking out.

"Matt Henry is currently off the field in Pune after feeling tightness in his right hamstring during his 6th over," New Zealand Cricket said in a statement. In a later update, it was confirmed that he won't be returning to the field. "Following further assessment he will not return to the field at this stage," their tweet read.

11 wickets in 7 matches for Matt Henry In World Cup 2023

It is pertinent to note that the injury to the 31-year-old right-arm speedster could be a huge blow to the BlackCaps as he has been in fine form for the 2019 World Cup runners-up. He has 11 wickets in seven matches already and is one of the most successful pacers in the competition. Henry is the latest New Zealand player to be nursing an injury with captain Kane Williamson and Lockie Ferguson already out due to injury concerns. In addition, Mark Chapman too is not available for selection due to a calf injury. As of now, New Zealand sit at the third place in the World Cup points table but are not yet assured of a place in the semifinals with matches against Pakistan and Sri Lanka remaining in the round-robin stage of the tournament.
