KKR Rope In England’s World Cup-Winning Coach, Brendon McCullum for IPL 2020

The duo would be replacing Jacques Kallis and Simon Katich in the Shah Rukh Khan owned franchise who decided to part ways with KKR a few days ago

Ahead of Indian Premier League (IPL) 2020, the Kolkata Knight Riders have roped in England’s World Cup-winning head coach Trevor Bayliss and former New Zealand captain Brendon McCullum as part of their support staff. As reported by Hindustan Times, the duo would be replacing Jacques Kallis and Simon Katich in the Shah Rukh Khan owned franchise who decided to part ways with KKR a few days ago. Both Bayliss and McCullum were previously associated with KKR. Bayliss was the head coach when KKR won its two IPL trophies in 2012 and in 2014 under Gautam Gambhir’s captaincy. He has also done a phenomenal job with Big Bash League franchise Sydney Sixers On the other hand, the former New Zealand skipper was among the star batsmen of the franchise for the first 5 seasons. He set the stage on fire with his blistering 158*-run knock in the inaugural IPL Edition and also captained the Knights in 2009 edition.

Another report by Times of India (TOI) has stated that the KKR think tank is planning to adapt the Mumbai Indians module of pushing the youngsters to the grand stage. “From setting up a sturdy coaching unit to creating an efficient ecosystem and leading cricketers longer, continuing stints, Mumbai Indians have yielded great results for themselves. It’s a template that certainly interests the management at Knights right now,” TOI quoted a source as saying.
