According to a report published in Inside Sport, a BCCI official said, "Time is too short to launch two new teams in IPL 2021. Especially when there is also a new player auction. According to the Inside Sport report, BCCI's contract with Star Sports expires in 2021, which is why the IPL with new teams can be organized in 2022 itself. Because if a season will be played with 10 teams then its value will increase more. 10 teams means a tournament of 94 matches in total, so this is not possible in the current situation.
