IPL 2020: KXIP Head Coach Kumble Reveals Reason Behind Chris Gayle Not Making The Playing XI Against SRH At Dubai
"Gayle was going to play today, but he is down with food poisoning. Last couple of days he hasn't had a good time," said KXIP head coach Kumble in an interview with commentators during SRH's innings.
Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) head coach Anil Kumble on Thursday revealed as to why the franchise's explosive Windies opener Chris Gayle did not make it to the playing XI in their IPL 2020 clash against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at Dubai, which ended in a fourth straight loss for the KL-Rahul led team in the season
The explosive left-hander was all set for his maiden outing in the ongoing IPL season against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at the Dubai International Stadium in Dubai on Thursday but had to pull out of the encounter due to illness.
During the course of the match KXIP head coach Kumble while speaking to one of the commentators revealed that Gayle was all set to play but missed out due to food poisoning.
"Gayle was going to play today, but he is down with food poisoning. Last couple of days he hasn't had a good time," said KXIP head coach Kumble in an interview with commentators during SRH's innings.
Gayle, who has etched his name as one of the all-time batting greats in IPL with is stellar exploits over the past seasons, is yet to make the cut and don the jersey for the KL Rahul-led side.
KXIP think tank had thought of opening with Gayle for the SRH game in place of seasoned opener Mayank Agarwal, who is opening the innings with skipper KL Rahul.
The explosive Jamaican left handed strokemaker would have replaced in-form Mayank Agarwal at the top with the elegant right-hander coming a place down the ordet at no.3 slot. Glenn Maxwell was expected to make way for Gayle in the playing XI.
Maxwell has so far played all five games for Kings XI Punjab this season and has managed to score only 42 runs. He has looked far from his best so far this season and is desperately searching for a big knock. KXIP made three changes in the playing XI against SRH on Thursday as they roped in Afghanistan spinner Mujeeb-Ur-Rahman in place of Chris Jordan.
