IPL 2020: Gambhir Set To Become Co-Owner Of Delhi Capitals, Claim Reports
Gambhir is looking to buy a 10% stake in the DC, for which he would require to pay Rs 100 crore, state reports
One of the most successful skippers of the Indian Premier League (IPL) history is now set to be the co-owner of one of the teams. Cricketer-turned-politician Gautam Gambhir is reportedly in talks with the GMR group for co-ownership of the Delhi Capitals.
According to a Times of India report, the former India opener is looking to buy a 10% stake in the DC, for which he would require to pay Rs 100 crore. It has been further learned that Gambhir is waiting for a clearance from the IPL governing council to go ahead with the deal.
The other 50% stakes of the team are owned by JSW group, who themselves became co-owners of the franchise only last year after paying a sum of Rs 550 crore.
Gambhir IPL career began with playing for the Delhi franchise (then Delhi Daredevils). Later, he moved to Shah Rukh Khan-owned Kolkata knight Riders (KKR) where he led the team to title wins. In 2018, he returned to Delhi side which turned out to be the last season of his career.
DC finished in the third position in IPL 2019. This was a promising result for them after a string of poor campaigns. With a talented pool of players led by Shreyas Iyer, and the addition of ace off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin this year, the Capitals will be looking to make a bigger impact in the IPL 2020.
