India's 2011 World Cup hero Yuvraj Singh announces retirement from all forms of cricket

Yuvraj Singh would go down as one of India's greatest cricketers in the limited overs format. Yuvraj Singh was an integral part of India's One Day international set up under the captaincy of Sourav Ganguly and Mahendra Singh Dhoni.

New Delhi: India's 2011 World Cup hero Yuvraj Singh bid adieu to all forms of cricket by announcing his retirement via a media interaction in Mumbai on Monday. Yuvraj Singh would go down as one of India's greatest cricketers in the limited overs format. Yuvraj Singh was an integral part of India's One Day international set up under the captaincy of Sourav Ganguly and Mahendra Singh Dhoni. The elegant southpaw is  hailed as one of India's best finishers in white ball cricket. Addressing a press conference to announce his retirement, Yuvraj could not hold back his tears and relived some of his stellar achievements on the green turf which made him one of India's most loved cricketers. 'Yuvi' touched upon the fond memories of winning the ICC World Cup in 2011 and hitting Stuart Broad for six consecutive sixes in an over in the 2007 World T20 . Yuvi' was a crowd puller in any part of the world with his belligerent stroke-play and clinical ball striking. He was gifted with art of timing the ball well and tonked some sky-rocketing sixes with that characteristic back-lift. He along with Mohammad Kaif were India's ever dependable pair down the order to pull off some nerve wrecking chases in some tantalizing close games Besides his eye catching strokeplay, Yuvraj was pretty handy with the red cherry too. He had a knack of breaking partnerships with his slow left arm spin. He was a major support cast to the likes of front line spinners like Anil Kumble, Harbhajan Singh and Ravichandran Ashwin in the spin department. A fielder par excellence, Yuvraj was a livewire on the green turf with his acrobatic diving skills and catching ability. He turned around many a games with his jaw dropping catches on the field. He along with Mohammad Kaif were a fortress in the covers and backward point region The tall and well built cricketer stepped up the level of his game for India at the major ICC tournaments. Yuvraj contributed immensely with bat and ball in India's maiden T20 World title in in 2007 and followed it up with another stellar performance in India's second ICC World Cup title in 2011. Yuvraj was the X-factor for team India in In a career spanning almost two decades, Yuvraj donned the Indian jersey with distinction in all three forms of the game. He scored a staggering 8701 runs in 304 ODIs with 14 tons. He also picked up 111 wickets for the Men in Blue in ODIs.  He amassed 1900 runs in 40 Test matches for India. In the T20 format, Yuvraj scored 1177 runs with eight fifties to his name.
