India Vs Pakistan Colombo Weather: What Happens If Match Gets Abandoned Due To Rain On Reserve Day?

IND vs PAK Asia Cup 2023: If the match gets abandoned, India and Pakistan will be sharing one point each. India will then occupy the third spot in the points table.

With rain threat looming large over the Super 4 match between India and Pakistan on Monday, there is a high possibility of the match getting washed out on reserve day. Heavy rain lashed Sri Lanka's Colombo on Monday morning, and the weather prediction for the rest of the day is not something Indian and Pakistani cricket fans will rejoice. However, the weather cleared in the afternoon.

The contest between the two Asian giants will resume as a full 50-overs-a-side match on Monday. India scored 147 for 2 after 24.1 overs following excellent starts from openers Rohit Sharma (56) and Shubhman Gill (58).

It must be noted that a minimum of 20 overs is required to be completed in both the innings for the match to be constituted an ODI.

IND Vs PAK: What Happens If Match Gets Washed Out On Reserve Day?

In the Super 4 round, all four qualified teams will play against each other once -- India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh.

If the match gets abandoned, India and Pakistan will be sharing one point each -- similar to what happened in Pallekele during the group stage clash. India will occupy the third spot in that case with one point.

Presently, Pakistan and Sri Lanka occupy the top two spots, with two points each, after defeating Bangladesh. The Babar Azam-led Pakistani side is on top with a better run rate (+1.051). If the India match gets abandoned, it will take Pakistan's tally to three points and consolidate their top position at the points table.

Sri Lanka, being led by Dasun Shanaka, has a run rate of +0.420. Bangladesh is loitering at the bottom with 0 points and run rate of -0.749. The Shakib al Hasan-led side are all but out of the race for the final.

If their match against Pakistan gets abandoned, India's next two games against Sri Lanka (on Tuesday) and Bangladesh on September 15 (Friday) becomes crucial and they would need to beat both the teams to make it to the final.
