Over the last decade, India and Pakistan have squared off at neutral venues only in major ICC tournaments and now doubts remain over Pakistan’s involvement in 2023 ODI World Cup in India.

India vs Pakistan in 2023 ODI Cricket World Cup: The 2023 edition of One-Day-International (ODI) Cricket World Cup is set to be hosted on Indian soil, most likely in the October-November window later this year. But will Pakistan arrive in India to play the ODI World Cup? As per reported by Reuters, Pakistan's Foreign Ministry on Thursday said that it will investigate all aspects closely, including players' security, and only then will decide whether Pakistan will travel to India for the quadrennial world event or not. Over the last decade, India and Pakistan have squared off at neutral venues only in major ICC tournaments and now doubts remain over Pakistan’s involvement in 2023 ODI World Cup in India.

According to a report in REUTERS, Foreign ministry spokesperson Mumtaz Zahra Baloch said Pakistan was of the view that "politics should not be mixed with sports".

"India’s policy of not playing cricket in Pakistan is disappointing," Baloch told REUTERS in Islamabad on Thursday.

"We are observing and evaluating all aspects relating to our participation in the World Cup including the security situation for Pakistani cricketers and we will offer our views to PCB (Pakistan Cricket Board) in due course."

Last time the Pakistan cricket team arrived in India for an international cricket match was during the 2016 T20 World Cup. In that tournament, India vs Pakistan 2016 T20 World Cup high-octane clash was initially decided to be played in Dharamshala, but at the last moment the venue changed to Kolkata's Eden Gardens. The Indian team went on a tour of Pakistan in 2008. After this, India never toured their neighboring country.

India refused to tour Pakistan for upcoming 2023 Asia Cup, set to begin from August 31 onwards. In reply, Pakistan threatened to boycott 2023 ODI World Cup in India if they lose 2023 Asia Cup hosting rights. The Asian Cricket Council, headed by BCCI secretary Jay Shah, agreed for a 'hybrid model' with only four matches hosted in Pakistan and the remaining nine in Sri Lanka.
