With the win, the 'Gautam Gambhir Era' is officially off to a winning start, as the Indian side is looking extremely promising under their new head coach.

India Vs Sri Lanka 1st T20I HIGHLIGHTS

Electing to bowl first, Sri Lankan bowlers did not do justice to their decision, as Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill provided India with a flying start, as the opening pair thumped the hosts for 74 runs in 5.5 overs, until Shubman Gill departed on the last ball of the powerplay and the new vice-captain in T20I's for India managed a blistering 34 off 16.

Wanindu Hasaranga, who stepped down as skipper of Sri Lanka in T20I's earlier this month, stepped up on the occasion and tricked the highly-dangerous Yashasvi Jaiswal with his very first ball, as his googly deceived the left-handed batsman and was then stumped out by Kusal Mendis.

The 3rd wicket partnership between newly-appointed skipper Suryakumar Yadav and Rishabh Pant proved to be extremely vital, as the pair notched up 76 off 43, before Matheesha Pathirana dismissed the Indian skipper for 58 off 26.

After the fall of Suryakumar Yadav's wicket on 150 in 13.2 overs, the Indian innings failed to pick up, as middle order and lower order batters could not carry the momentum and thus, the visitors were restricted to 213/7 in their 20 overs (A total that could have easily been above 230).

In reply, Sri Lankan batters showed immense maturity alongside aggression, as they did not give Indian bowlers any chance of getting breakthroughs. The opening duo of Kusal Mendis and Pathum Nissanka managed to score 84 runs, and even after the dismissal of the former, the scoring rate did not take a stopping.

The turning point of the match came in the 15th over, as the last 6 overs of the match saw Indian bowlers scalp 9 wickets within 30 runs, as the hosts were reduced from 140/1 in 14 overs, to being bundled out for 170 in 19.2 overs.

For his emphatic half-century, Suryakumar Yadav was awarded the Man of the Match, and India now take a 1-0 lead in the series.
