IND vs NZ: Shubman Gill Scores Sensational Double Hundred, Becomes Youngest To The Landmark In ODIs

Even as wickets continued to fall at the other end Shubman kept going and returned to the pavilion only in the 50th over.

Hyderabad: It was a complete Shubman Gill show from start to finish in the first India vs New Zealand ODI at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad. After the Men in Blue opted to bat first, Shubman came to open the batting along with Rohit Sharma. The duo helped India off to a strong start but Rohit once again failed to capitalise on a good start and departed after having made 34.

Even as wickets continued to fall at the other end with Virat Kohli, Ishan Kishan getting out for low scores Shubman kept going. The right-handed batter's innings was studded with 19 fours and 9 sixes and he shattered plenty of records before ultimately getting out for 208 in the final over.

Plethora of records broken by Gill in Hyderabad

Not only did he break Sachin Tendulkar's record for the highest individual score against the Kiwis in ODIs, he also surpassed Tendulkar's record of the highest individual score at this venue.

The Indian opener also became the fastest to 1000 ODI runs during the course of this innings, also becoming the youngest to score a double hundred in One Day Internationals (ODIs) aged 23 years and 132 days. He bettered Ishan Kishan's record who had reached the landmark at the age of 24 years and 145 days.

So much was Gill's impact today that even as no other Indian batter crossed 35 with Suryakumar Yadav making 31 and Hardik Pandya scoring 28, India still managed to give a target of 350 to New Zealand. The level of confidence Gill had in him could be gauged from the fact that he brought up his double hundred with 3 successive sixes and looked to clear the ground way too often in the  dying stage of the innings before ultimately being caught near the fence in the last over.
