Team India Creates Unwanted Record In Test Cricket After 11 Years

In this Manchester Test, the England team showcased powerful batting. With commanding centuries from Joe Root and Ben Stokes, the hosts crossed the 600-run mark in their first innings.

This marked the first time in 11 years that a team managed to post over 600 runs in a Test innings against India, creating an unwelcome statistical reminder for the visitors.

England piles up 669 runs

England posted 669 runs in their first innings — the highest-ever score in a Test match at this ground. With ample time left in the match, India's road to a comeback now looks increasingly difficult.

In their first innings, the Indian cricket had managed to score 358 runs, showing early signs of competitiveness. However, England's 669-run reply handed them a massive first-innings lead of 311 runs.

To compound India’s problems, their second innings began disastrously — losing both openers in the very first over, making the uphill task of saving the Test even steeper.
