IND vs AUS 4th Test: Mayank Agarwal joins Shaw and Gavaskar in elite club

Mayank Agarwal is now the only third Indian opener to score two fifties in the first three career innings at the opening position after veteran Sunil Gavaskar and teenage sensation Prithvi Shaw

After scoring a brilliant knock of 77 off 122 balls, rookie Mayank Agarwal is now the only third Indian opener to score two fifties in the first three career innings at the opening position after veteran Sunil Gavaskar and teenage sensation Prithvi Shaw.

The 27-year-old continued his brilliant form during Day 1 of the 4th Test encounter between India and Australia in Sydney on Thursday. Thanks to his innings, Agarwal has become the eighth Indian opener to have scored at least two 50+ scores in Australia.

India were in trouble after India lost out-of-form opener Kl Rahul for just 9 runs in the second over. A good length delivery outside the off-stump got a thick outside edge from Rahul's bat and went straight into the hands of Mitchel Marsh at first slip with India's score reading 10 runs.

However, Agarwal went on to stitch a good partnership along with Cheteshwar Pujara. India were 69/1 at lunch on the first day.

The visitors dominated the first session of the day as opener Mayank Agarwal and Cheteshwar Pujara added some crucial runs for the second wicket after losing Lokesh Rahul cheaply.
