If You Want To Select Slim Guys, Go To Fashion Shows: Sunil Gavaskar On Selectors Ignoring Sarfaraz Khan

Gavaskar said that if the selectors are not giving Sarfaraz an opportunity only because he is not "slim and trim", then they should select models.

Despite Mumbai batter Sarfaraz Khan being in terrific form in domestic cricket, he is yet to earn a place in the Indian national team. The same has left many former cricketers and cricket experts baffled. Joining those who believe Sarfaraz merits a place in the Indian side is former India captain Sunil Gavaskar who has slammed the Chetan Sharma-led All India Selection Committee for ignoring the batter despite him scoring loads of runs in domestic cricket circuit.

Gavaskar even said that if the selectors are not giving him an opportunity only because he is not "slim and trim", then they should select models.

"He is not staying off the field when he is scoring hundreds, he is back on the field again. All that tells you that the man is fit for cricket. If you are looking for only slim and trim guys, then you might as well go to a fashion show and pick some models and then give them a bat and ball in their hand and then include them. You have cricketers in all shapes and sizes. Don't go by the size, but go by the runs and the wickets," Gavaskar told India Today.

I cried when the team was announced and my name wasn't there: Sarfaraz

Earlier, the 25-year-old had admitted that he cried after being ignored for the first two matches against Australia.

"When the team was announced and my name wasn't there, I was sad the whole day, when we travelled from Guwahati to Delhi, I was feeling very lonely. I cried too," he said as per a Times of India report.

He disclosed that it was a conversation with his dad that helped him calm down.

"I called my dad to Delhi. He spoke to me, I practiced with him, and then felt better," he stated.

Notably, while Sarfaraz has not been named in India's squad for the first two Test matches he could still be in consideration for the Australia series with India set to host the Kangaroos for a four-match series. The BCCI has not yet announced the squad for the remaining 2 Tests and with the kind of runs Safaraz has piled in domestic cricket in recent years, it won't be a surprise if his name is there on that list.
