ICC ODI bowler rankings: Sandeep Lamichhane makes entry, Akila marks career-best

South African spearhead Lungi Ngidi has gained 57 places to reach 88th position

Nepal leg-spinner Sandeep Lamichhane reached yet another milestone in his ODI cricket career which began in the Netherlands earlier this month. After finishing with four wickets against the hosts in the recently concluded 2-match series, the 18-year-old bowler entered into the ICC ODI bowler’s rankings.

A wicket in the first ODI and a 3-wicket haul in the second at Amstelveen helped Lamichhane gaining the 217th position, stated by ICC on Monday.

Sri Lankan spinner Akila Dhananjaya turned out to be wrecker-in-chief against South Africa on Sunday as he claimed 6/29 to beat South Africa by 171 runs. Though the Lankans lost the series 3-2, Akila claimed 14 wickets in the 5-match rubber and climbed to his career-best in ICC ODI bowler rankings.

His match-winning six-wicket haul in Colombo lifted him 22 places grab the 21st position. He is also now on a career-high 600 rating points. Thisara Perera is another Lankan player to move up the rankings for bowlers. He moved up by four places to 68th position.

Despite winning the ODI rubber, South Africa slipped to 4th position in the ICC ODI team rankings. On the other hand, player of the series JP Duminy went through a gain of 11 slots, claiming the 40th position after his phenomenal performance with the bat. He scored 227 runs at a strike-rate of 135.9 in the series.

Bad news for Proteas skipper Faf du Plessis who has been ruled out of the top 10 list after missing the last two ODIs due to a shoulder injury.

South African spearhead Lungi Ngidi has gained 57 places to reach 88th position after finishing with 10 wickets while spinner Tabraiz Shamsi’s six wickets in the series have lifted him 47 places to 100th position.
