Gautam Gambhir Press Conference: Indian Cricket Team head coach, Gautam Gambhir, has addressed the media during the Pre-Departure Press Conference on Monday, November 11, and during the press conference, the World Cup winner has fired shots at Australia legend Ricky Ponting.
The 2011 World Cup winner asked the legendary former batsman to 'mind his own country's cricket and shall not be bothered about Indian Cricket'.
Gautam Gambhir's stern reply has come in the aftermath of Ricky Ponting's latest comments on Virat Kohli, as India and Australia gear up for the all-elusive Border-Gavaskar Trophy series starting November 22, with the first Test scheduled to be played at Perth Stadium, followed by a Day-Night Pink Ball Test match at Adelaide Oval.
"What has Ponting got to do with Indian cricket? He should think about Australian cricket," said Gautam Gambhir.
Virat Kohli has been heavily struggling for form across all formats and was completely out-of-sorts during his last 6 innings in the three-match Test series against New Zealand.
Apart from his 70, his rest of the innings saw him either getting beaten on all ends up, or make highly ordinary decision-making between the wickets, as the legendary batter found himself run-out at crucial situations, under unnecessary running conditions.
'Not Focused On WTC Final; BGT Remains Priority': Gautam Gambhir
The Indian head coach has confirmed that the side are eyeing BGT series as their priority for now, and not the World Test Championship final, as the 2021 and 2023 WTC runners-up are in dire need of a minimum 4-0 series victory against Australia to automatically qualify for 2025 Final.
"We are not looking at the points table. We are absolutely focused on Border-Gavaskar series and win it," said Gambhir.
The current ICT coach has come under heavy criticism in the aftermath of India's historic 3-0 Test series defeat at home to New Zealand, to which he said that he 'accepts the criticism, and 'India were outplayed'.
"When I took the job, I knew that it is going to be prestigious job and at the same time a tough one. I am not facing any heat. We're outplayed in all three departments. We accept all the criticism. In Australia, preparation is going to be key. These ten days are going to be very crucial for the Day 1 of the first Test," he added.
