Gambhir Urges BCCI To Retire Number 12 Jersey As A Perfect Tribute To Yuvraj Singh

Gautam Gambhir has urged the BCCI to retire the number 12 jersey as a perfect tribute to the 'once-in-a-lifetime' cricketer

One of India's greatest ODI cricketers, Yuvraj Singh announced his retirement from all formats of cricket in June 2019. As Yuvraj called time on International cricket, the elegant Southpaw will never be forgotten for giving India two World Cup titles in 2011 and 2007; one he won while suffering from a rare germ cell cancer and the other one while coughing blood. Former Indian opener Gautam Gambhir has urged the BCCI to retire the number 12 jersey as a perfect tribute to the 'once-in-a-lifetime' cricketer. “The month of September, meanwhile, has special emotions for me. It was in this month in 2007 that we won the ICC T20 World Cup. The incredible Yuvraj Singh was in his elements. Just for the performance in that tournament and in the 2011 World Cup, I’d urge BCCI to retire the number 12 jersey that he wore. It will be a fitting tribute to a once-in-a-lifetime cricketer," Gambhir wrote in his column for Times of India. Remembering Yuvraj's brutal six sixes, that demolished England in the inaugural edition of the T20 World Cup in South Africa, Gambhir revealed  what Yuvraj told him when he asked about how Yuvi managed to pull off such incredible feat. “We didn’t know what was coming. Hence, rather than worrying about the future we concentrated on the next delivery. I remember asking my dear friend Yuvraj the secret of hitting those six sixes against England. Prince – as I call him fondly – said, “Gauti yaar buss ho gaya (it just happened), I never planned. What Yuvraj is saying is he kept it simple. He batted with a clear mind," he wrote.
