Gambhir donates his IPL prize money to Sukma martyr's family

New Delhi: Going one step further to lend out his support towards the family of the 25 CRPF personnel who were killed during a Maoist ambush in Chattisgarh’s Sukma, Gautam Gambhir decided to donate his Man of the Match prize money to them.

After playing a major role in Kolkata Knight Riders’ thumping 7-wicket win over Delhi Daredevils, Gautam Gambhir announced his noble decision at the post-match presentation.

“Whatever I have earned till now, all the money goes the victim’s wards and family, who got martyred in Sukma,” said an emotional Gambhir.

Gambhir further lamented that he is proud of the soldier’s efforts and also urged everyone to come forward to help out the martyr’s families.

“I am a proud Indian and I want to contribute and also want everybody else to contribute. They gave our lives for us, so we can at least do this much,” added Gambhir.

Gambhir remained unbeaten on 71 in KKR’s 161 run chase and took the player of the match award.

It was on Friday morning that Gambhir announced his decision to bear the educational expenses of the children of the 25 CRPF personnel, who were killed in an attack by the Maoists in Chhattisgarh's Sukma on Monday.

On the same day Gambhir took his contribution towards martyr’s family to the next level family by donating his prize money to their families.

As many as 25 CRPF personnel were killed and six others were injured in the encounter with the Maoists in Sukma.

The attack took place on personnel of the CRPF's 74th Battalion as they were assisting the local population in road building activity in the district.

The Centre has assured action against the perpetrators of the 'cold-blooded murder' in Sukma.
