New Delhi: Former Bangladesh cricket team skipper, Khaled Mahmud Sujan, was rushed to hospital after he suffered a stroke on Saturday in the country capital, Dhaka.


The 46-year-old former cricketer, who celebrated his birthday last Wednesday, is now Chairman of Bangladesh Cricket Board’s (BCB) Game Development Committee and also the national team manager, was supposed to attend an emergency meeting of the board on Sunday.


Speaking to a Bangladesh newspaper, The Daily Star, the BCB media committee chairman Jalal Yunus said: "The members of the BCB learnt of his condition after making enquiries into why he was absent from today's [Sunday's] board meeting. He was admitted to hospital yesterday morning and is currently in the ICU.He is in a semi-coma, but the CT scan has not revealed anything too serious."


Yunus also mentioned that Mahmud could be taken to Singapore for better treatment, if needed.


Mahmud who represented Bangladesh in 12 Tests and 77 ODI's scored 991 runs while picking up 67 wickets in the limited-overs format. He was only the third Test captain for his country, having led them in nine games before going on to retire from international cricket in 2006.


Only a few days back, he had taken part in the second edition of the Walton Masters Cricket Carnival, a tournament that features only the former star cricketers participate in. Since his international retirement, Mahmud has been into coaching and administrative roles.
