New Delhi: Aaron Finch’s blazing 63 off 37 and a combined effort by the bowlers handed Melbourne Renegades a cruising 49 run victory over the Sydney Thunder in the Big Bash League match at Dockalnds, Melbourne.

Thunder captain Ben Rohrer asked Rengades to make first use of the track and the home team obliged with blistering start lead by captain Aaron Finch, who went to hit four sixes and three boundaries on his way to 63. Later on some cameos from Callum Ferguson and Dwayne Bravo helped the Renegades to post a challenging total of 179.

In reply, the Thunder innings never really took off as they lost opener Patterson on the very first ball.

Veteran spinner Brad Hogg turned out to be the pick of the bowlers for Renegades well supported by charismatic all-rounder Dwayne Bravo.

Hogg picked up his first wicket through a delivery which appeared to be a ‘bouncer’. Seeing the batsman chipping the down the track, Hogg dug one in to trap Ryan Gibson off guard, who top edged it and ended up giving a skier to Hogg.

When asked about the delivery after match, Hogg candidly replied that it was not planned at all and it was poor cricket from both parties. “I saw him (Gibson) coming and sort off dug it in, look, it was poor cricket all around to be honest. I was surprised that he came charging down, I delivered that ball and was surprised that the ball went up, so I had go and catch it,” said Hogg.
