Dhoni should bat like he did in IPL 2018 to attain success in 2019 World Cup, says VVS Laxman

Former Indian batsman VVS Laxman believes MS Dhoni is extremely fit and will have a big role to play in the 2019 World Cup

Former Indian batsman VVS Laxman has backed the World Cup winning captain MS Dhoni to express himself and have a good time while playing his natural game. Not only that, the veteran is also confident that Dhoni will be very successful in the 2019 World Cup.

Laxman further said the two-time World Cup winning captain is extremely fit and will have a big role to play in the 2019 World Cup.

“MS Dhoni is a legendary player and I believe he will have a big role to play in the 2019 World Cup. He is the best wicket-keeper in the world without a doubt, even now. He is supremely fit,” Laxman told Aaj Tak in an interview.

Laxman hopes that Dhoni finds similar form in which he was during IPL 2018, earlier this year.

“I am excited with the way he batted in the IPL this year. If he goes out and plays with such freedom, he is still a dangerous player. If he plays his natural game and expresses himself, I am confident he will be very successful in the 2019 World Cup,” Laxman added.

During IPL 2018, the former captain scored 455 runs with a strike rate of 150.66 while playing for Chennai Super Kings. Recently, Dhoni’s close friend and manager Arun Pandey revealed that the veteran is in no mood to back off from a shot at the World Cup next year.

The former skipper’s role an ODI batsman has come under scanner after he struggled to contribute runs with the bat. The 37-year-old was able to score a half-century almost a year ago against Sri Lanka.

However, he continues to enjoy the support of captain Virat Kohli and the team management.
