Earlier, Dhananjaya had withdrawn from the West Indies tour following his father’s untimely death. The allrounder, however, changed his mind after his father’s funeral and decided to get back to cricket.
Dhananjaya’s father Ranjan, a local politician, was gunned down in Ratmalana, a suburb of the capital Colombo, close to midnight on 23rd May, police said.
Sri Lanka Cricket decided against naming a replacement for the 26-year-old and instead, extend their full support.
Dhananjaya is Sri Lanka's incumbent No. 3 batsman, having hit two centuries in his four most-recent innings there. This included a match-saving fourth-innings ton in Delhi, last December.
