CoA disbands BCCI's special committee on Palam security breach
The venue for this game was shifted to the Air Force Ground at Palam because Feroz Shah Kotla was hosting the India-New Zealand first T20I.
New Delhi: The bizarre incident of a car being driven onto the cricket pitch during the Ranji match between Delhi-Uttar Pradesh seems to creat a scuffle between BCCI and CoA.
On Monday, BCCI President CK Khanna formed a security committee headed by acting treasurers Anirudh Chaudhary, Jay Shah and Abhishek Dalmiye But the meeting lasted for just an hour and so before Commitee of Administrators (CoA) put a ban on it. CoA called this an "unneccesary exercise".
Last Friday, during the Ranji match between Delhi- Uttar Pradesh team, a spectator had drove his WagonR onto the pitch while the match was still on. The driver was later identified as Girish Kumar who later claimed that he had lost his way and since there was no security at the enterance, he drove his vehicle.
CoA Vinod Rai wrote to the board members, "I find that the acting president didn't get himself briefed by BCCI administration before deciding to constitute the said committee. There was no consultation with CoA either on the issue,".
He also added, "It needs to be appreciated that the Palam ground is an Air Force ground. The security of armed forced premises are managed by the Armed forces themselves and they will not allow BCCI or any other civilian agencies to undertake investigation of either its premises or provided documents. Hence, the exercise of collecting documents/ reports to prepare the details by Prof Shetty will be a futile exercise. It will, thus, unnecessary inconvenience the members of the committee with no tangible benefit emerging from the exercise."
Some sources also said that BCCI had formed the committee without taking permission from the CoA while an internal probe was underway.
