BBL 2019: Umpire Raises Finger To Give Out, Ends Up Scratching Nose | WATCH
Umpire Greg Davidson caused a furore at Marvel Stadium when he changed his mind midway through what looked like he was signalling a wicket from an lbw decision
The Sunday clash between Melbourne Renegades and Adelaide Strikers in the ongoing Big Bash League witnessed a bizarre incident. On-field umpire Greg Davidson caused a furore at Marvel Stadium when he changed his mind midway through what looked like he was signalling a wicket from an lbw decision.
During the 17th over, leggie Rashid Khan’s delivery crashed into Renegades batsman Beau Webster. The Strikers appealed for a leg-before and Davidson looked convinced as began raising his hand for an ‘out signal’. However, the umpire changed his mind and instead of raising his finger, he ended up scratching his nose.
Here’s the video:
The TV replays showed that the ball was actually hitting the stumps. However, the decision did not prove to be costly for the Strikers as Renegades ended the innings on 137/8; 18 runs short of the target. Rashid Khan was adjudged the Player of the Match for picking up two wickets and adding 25 runs. Earlier, Adelaide Strikers won the toss and elected to bat first. They put a total of 155 for the loss of six wickets in 20 overs. Opener Phil Salt scored 54 runs off 26 balls and skipper Alex Carey's cautious knock of 41 helped the side to reach a respectable total. Jonathan Wells and Rashid Khan too added some crucial runs to the scoreboard in the late overs. Wells scored 20 runs while Khan smashed quick 25 off 16 deliveries.👃 Greg Davidson with a bit of an itchy schnoz at Marvel Stadium #nosegate #BBL09 pic.twitter.com/m3M772Atox
