Bairstow Dismissal Row: MCC Suspends 3 Members Over Altercation With Australian Players In Lord's Long Room

Australian wicketkeeper Alex Carey threw the ball towards the stumps at the striker’s end where Bairstow was spotted outside the crease.

After the altercations with the Australian team in Lord's Long Room following Jonny Bairstow's controversial stumping on the final day of the second Ashes Test, the Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) has suspended three members. Following controversial dismissal of Jonny Bairstow on Sunday led to an obnoxious heated verbal spat between members of MCC and Australia players at the Lord’s Long Room.

The incident took place when Bairstow was caught outside his crease before the ball was considered dead during England’s run chase of 371 at Lord’s on day five. Australian wicketkeeper Alex Carey threw the ball towards the stumps at the striker’s end where Bairstow was spotted outside the crease.

After the dismissal, English veteran speedster Stuart Broad was also caught in heated discussions with Australia’s fielders before the lunch break. Later on, as per the visuals, Aussie opener Usman Khawaja and David Warner and the spectators got involved in a war of words in the Long Room as Australia walked off for lunch.

After all the chaos, Australia asked for a probe regarding the incident and as a result the MCC went on to suspend three members who were part of the confrontation and said, “they will not be permitted back to Lord’s whilst the investigation takes place and were informed of this by MCC Chief Executive, Guy Lavender”.

“We maintain that the behaviour of a small number of members was completely unacceptable and whilst there was no suggestion by Pat Cummins in the post-match press conference that there was any physical altercation, it remains wholly unacceptable to behave in such a way, which goes against the values of the club.

“MCC condemns the behaviour witnessed and once again we reiterate our apology to Cricket Australia,” MCC statement read.”

After Bairstow got out, Stokes was the lone warrior. The skipper played a brilliant knock of 155 off 214 balls, laced with nine sixes and as many fours. However, after he got dismissed, England faced to a 43-run loss. The hosts now trail the five-match series 0-2.
