'Ashwin Should Be One Of The Candidates For India's Test Captaincy' - Says Former Pakistan Spinner On Ravi Ashwin

Currently, he is one of the finest all-rounders in world cricket.

It has been a while ever since Virat Kohli stepped down as India’s skipper across formats. The Indian team has witnessed an end number of captains though Rohit Sharma has been given the leadership role in all three formats. Shikhar Dhawan, KL Rahul, Hardik Pandya even Jasprit Bumrah have led the Indian side. The only player who has missed out on leading the Indian side is Ravichandran Ashwin. Currently, he is one of the finest all-rounders in world cricket.

Former Pakistan wrist spinner Danish Kaneria reckons Ashwin is the right candidate to lead the Indian side in Test format.

"Ravichandran Ashwin should be one of the candidates for India's Test captaincy. He still has a lot of cricket left in him. He is very smart and intelligent with his batting and bowling. It seems as if he is constantly thinking when he is on the ground," Kaneria said in a video on his YouTube channel.

"India were under a lot of pressure. Ravichandran Ashwin was cool and calm in that situation, playing a great knock to steady the ship for his team. He has saved India on several occasions with his batting contributions. The Indian team looked weak when they played without Anil Kumble in the past, and the same goes for Ashwin. His 42-run knock was equal to scoring a century," Kaneria further said.

Earlier, It was Ravichandran Ashwin and Shreyas Iyer's heroics that helped India win the second Test match before lunch on the fourth morning.  The 71-run partnership between Iyer and Ashwin is the second-highest for India for the eighth wicket.

Ashwin was also named the Player of the Match for his all-around heroics in the 2nd Test.
