ACB Chairman Says He Will Soon Give 'Good News' On Afghanistan Women Cricket

“Very soon, we will give you good news on how we will proceed," said the chairman of ACB, Azizullah Fazli.

Despite various media reports suggesting that the future of Afghanistan's women's cricket is in danger after the Taliban takeover of the country, Afghanistan’s Cricket Board (ACB) chairman has suggested otherwise.

“We will give you our clear position on how we will allow women to play cricket,” the chairman of ACB, Azizullah Fazli told SBS Radio Pashto on Friday.

“Very soon, we will give you good news on how we will proceed.”

Taliban's cultural commission Ahmadullah Wasiq said that he doesn't think women will be allowed to play cricket because it is "not necessary that women should play cricket". However, there are members in ACB who have adamantly supported women's cricket.

The Afghanistan Cricket's chairman has said that the women cricketers are safe in Afghanistan. “The women cricket coach Diana Barakzai and her players are all safe and living in their home country,” he told SBS.

“Many countries have asked them to leave Afghanistan, but they have not left Afghanistan, and at the moment, they are in their places.”

Meanwhile, Cricket Australia has said that it will have no alternative left but to cancel the Test series against Afghanistan if they do not allow women's cricket to be played in the country.
