BCCI President Sourav Ganguly Disappointed Over Sacking Of WV Raman As India Women's Coach

BCCI president expressed surprise that the coach under whose mentorship the team reached the final of the Twenty20 World Cup final in Australia in 2020 Cup, was not retained.

Last week, BCCI’s Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) announced a big change in the Indian women's cricket team. Ahead of England tour, former cricketer Ramesh Powar was once again made the head coach of the Indian women's cricket team. Powar's name was shortlisted from the list of 35 candidates who applied for the job.

According to a report in Cricbuzz, BCCI President Sourav Ganguly is not happy with this decision. The BCCI chief has expressed his displeasure over WV Raman not being retained as coach.

WV Raman was not retained by the Cricket Advisory Committee as the coach of the women's team. In place of Raman, the CAC appointed Ramesh Powar as the new coach of the team. Ganguly did not say anything about Powar's selection but the BCCI president expressed surprise that the coach under whose mentorship the team reached the final of the Twenty20 World Cup final in Australia in 2020 Cup, was not retained.

Two years back, Powar was sacked due to a public fallout with Indian women’s cricket team senior player Mithali Raj.

India made it to the finals of the T20 World Cup in 2020. The Indian women's cricket team had to face defeat in the final match against Australia. The Indian women's team also suffered a defeat in the home series against South Africa in March this year.

It is believed that some senior players of the team had complained about Raman. Despite this, the BCCI president believes that Raman should have been retained in the post. However, those involved in women’s cricket reckon that CAC's decision should be respected.

“He should know this himself that the CAC is an independent body,” a BCCI insider told Cricbuzz.
