Australian Open 2019: Naomi Osaka defeats Petra Kvitova to win women's singles title

Naomi Osaka defeated Petra Kvitova in three well contested sets to win the Australian Open women's singles title on Saturday. The fourth seed Japanese beat her Czech opponent in convincing fashion to win the second grand slam of her career. Osaka had won her maiden Grand Slam by winning the women's singles title in the 2018 US Open.
Osaka had a stellar run in the build up to the finals accounting for some major seeds in the tournament. She knocked out some major title contenders like Karilina Pliskova, Elina Svitolina and A Sevastova to reach her maiden Australian Open final.
Meanwhile, her Czech opponent Kvitová sailed into the quarterfinals without dropping a set, recording straight wins over Magdaléna Rybáriková, Irina-Camelia Begu, Belinda Bencic and Amanda Anisimova. The two time Wimbledon champion made it to the round of sixteen for the first time since 2012, and for the first time at a Grand Slam outside the US Open since the 2015 French Open.
