Manipuri athlete Naorem Roshibina Devi bagged the silver medal in women's 60kg wushu sanda final at Hangzhou Asian Games.
India’s Naorem Roshibina Devi won the silver medal after a 0-2 defeat against local heavyweight Wu Xiaowei in the women's 60kg wushu sanda final at Hangzhou Asian Games on Thursday. Roshibina found the going tough against the local favourite allowing the Chinese to get off to a strong start. After two rounds, Wu was declared winner by the judges. The aggressive first round began with a splendid take down of Roshibina as Wu tried her opponent to get off the mat, reported PTI.
The Manipuri athlete tried to bounce back as she got her hold of Wu’s leg to push her out to the edges but the same did not yield a favourable result as round one belonged to the Chinese with a 1-0 lead.
A watchful Wu sealed the issue with an attack on Roshibina Devi's torso in the second round, the PTI report added.
Following her victory, Roshibina said she was happy but regretted not winning a gold medal. She also dedicated her win to the people of Manipur. "I am feeling good about winning the silver medal but I am also a little sad about not being able to bag a gold medal," she said, as per ANI.
