Even after the 1983 ODI World Cup win, India had a poor Test record abroad in the first 67 years. Team India won only 13 Test matches on foreign soil from 1932 to 1999. After Sourav Ganguly was handed over the captaincy duty, India started winning on foreign soil as well. India has won only 53 Tests on foreign soil so far, out of which 40 Tests have been won after the year 2000. Under Kohli's captaincy, the Indian team has been more successful overseas.
