This is the first time in the history of Gujarat that it is hosting a National Games. Running from 29 September to 12 October, the Games are being held in 6 cities of Gujarat.

On this occasion of the inauguration, PM Modi also addressed all the athletes from across the country. Olympians PV Sindhu, Neeraj Chopra and Ravi Kumar Dahiya also took part in the event. After the inauguration, PM Modi said, "In 2014, the series of 'first & best' started in the country. Our youth carried that forward even in sports. 8 yrs back, Indian athletes participated in less than 100 int'l events. Now, they participate in over 300 international events." (Image: PTI)
