Kanchanjunga Express Accident: Railways Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw Inspects Site, Meets Injured At Hospital — PICS

Union Railway Minister visited the accident site in Bengal's New Jalpaiguri near Rangapani railway station to take stock of the situation and inspect the site of collision.

A massive collision between the Kanchanjunga Express and a good train took place in West Bengal's Darjeeling today.

The collision occurred 30 km from New Jalpaiguri station, near Rangapani station, following which four rear compartments of Kanchanjunga Express derailed due to the impact by the goods train's locomotive from behind. (Image Source: PTI)

After the incident, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw reached the accident spot riding pillion on a motorbike for some distance, since the bigger vehicles could not move as the road was narrow. (Image Source: PTI)

There, he took stock of relief operations along with Darjeeling MP Raju Bista and announced compensation for the families of the deceased and the injured. (Image Source: PTI)

The central government has announced Rs 10 lakh compensation to the next of kin of the deceased, Rs 2.5 lakh to the grievously injured, and Rs 50,000 to those who sustained minor injuries in the accident. (Image Source: PTI)
