Meghalaya: 4 Injured In TMC-NPP Clash, Action To Be Taken Against 131 People, Says Poll Officer

New Delhi: At least four people were injured after a fight between supporters of the opposition Trinamool Congress (TMC) and the ruling National People's Party (NPP) broke out in Meghalaya's West Garo Hills district on Wednesday, said Chief Electoral Officer FR Kharkongor, news agency PTI reported. Election officials have identified at least 131 people who were involved in a fight, said an official quoted by PTI.

PTI was informed by Chief Electoral Officer FR Kharkongor that these 131 individuals will be bound over to prevent similar incidents in the future.
The CEO stated that 25 of the 131 accused had already been bound over by the police.

The CEO said that the situation is under control due to the presence of election officials and three companies of centrally armed police forces in the district.

SG Estamur Mominin, a former MLA for the NPP who has since joined the TMC, went to the village around 9 p.m. to attend a feast at his uncle's house. After that, a group of NPP loyalists went there, caused a disturbance, and the TMC supporters are said to have been attacked.
According to the CEO, nine individuals were transported to the Phulbari community health center following the altercation, but all were discharged.
Nozim Hussain has filed an FIR claiming that four people were injured when a procession led by Habibur Zaman of the NPP stopped near his house and threw stones at it.
A police report said that one party said the other one started the attack.
On February 27, the 60-member Meghalaya Assembly will be up for election, and on March 2, votes will be counted.
