‘Violence Continues, We Don’t Have Expectations From Amit Shah’: Manipur Cong Chief On Rahul’s Visit
Speaking about Rahul Gandhi's visit, Manipur Pradesh Congress President claimed that Imphal witnessed even more violence after Home Minister Amit Shah's visit and normalcy is yet to be restored.
Congress leaders on Thursday spoke about former party president Rahul Gandhi's two-day visit to Manipur wherein he will meet people displaced by the ethnic strife in relief camps and hold talks with civil society organisations. This is the first visit of the Congress leader to the northeastern state since violence broke out on May 3. Manipur Pradesh Congress President said that normalcy has not been restored in Manipur as "the double-engine government has not been able to control the situation."
Keisham Meghachandra Singh, President of Manipur Pradesh Congress, claimed that the state continued to witness violence and there were incidents of cross-firing being reported. "The present situation is that normalcy has still not been established in Manipur. As of now, the situation is of unrest and violence continues," he told news agency ANI.

He alleged that Imphal witnessed even more violence after Home Minister Amit Shah's visit to the state and added: "The double-engine government has not been able to control the situation here. We do not have any expectations from Amit Shah and N Biren Singh." "There is a complete failure of law and order," he asserted.
Ajoy Kumar, AICC (All India Congress Committee) Incharge North East, accused the Modi government of attempting to hide Manipur from the news cycle. "Rahul Gandhi and Congress party has always been raising the Manipur issue in the country. Rahul Gandhi believes that the country needs to know the plight of Manipur," he remarked.
"There is total law and order failure in the state right now. The double-engine government has become the triple problem government. Rahul Gandhi will be meeting the people of the state and will try to share their woes. I think the government and PM Narendra Modi should take a lesson from his visit," Ajoy Kumar commented.
Asserting that there was stability and peace under the Congress regime, the AICC Incharge of North East said that PM Modi is silent on the issue while Rahul Gandhi, as a common citizen, is talking about the Manipur situation.

Around 50,000 people are currently staying in over 300 relief camps across the state since ethnic strife started in May this year, PTI reported. Meanwhile, more than 100 people have lost their lives in the ethnic violence between Meitei and Kuki communities in the northeastern state so far.
Clashes first broke out on May 3 after a 'Tribal Solidarity March' was organised in the hill districts to protest against the Meitei community's demand for Scheduled Tribe (ST) status.
Meiteis account for about 53 per cent of Manipur's population and live mostly in the Imphal Valley. Tribals -- Nagas and Kukis -- constitute another 40 per cent of the population and reside in the hill districts.
