‘Detrimental To Sovereignty, Integrity Of India’: Govt Bans 9 Meitei Extremist Organisations For 5 Yrs
A statement from the MHA said that the Centre believes that these banned organisations have been working to disrupt the sovereignty and integrity of India.
The Ministry of Home Affairs on Monday declared a ban on nine Meitei extremist organisations that mostly operate in Manipur for a period of five years. The Ministry declared the Meitei Extremist Organisations-the Peoples’ Liberation Army (PLA), its political wing -- the Revolutionary Peoples’ Front (RPF), the United National Liberation Front (UNLF) and its armed wing -- the Manipur Peoples’ Army (MPA) as unlawful associations for a period of five years, according to an official notification.
Apart from the aforementioned names, the MHA also declared a ban on the Peoples’ Revolutionary Party of Kangleipak (PREPAK) and its armed wing -- the Red Army, the Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP) and its armed wing also called the Red Army, the Kanglei Yaol Kanba Lup (KYKL), the Coordination Committee (CorCom), and the Alliance for Socialist Unity Kangleipak (ASUK) along with all their factions, wings and front organisations.

The statement from the MHA stated that the Centre believes that these organisations have been engaging in activities that are prejudicial to the sovereignty and integrity of India and are using armed means to ensure that. The statement added that the said organisations have been attacking and killing Security Forces, Police, and civilians in Manipur. It also stated that they had been intimidating, extorting, and looting money from the civilians to fund their organisations.
MHA has also accused them of maintaining camps in neighbouring countries for the purpose of sanctuaries, training, and clandestine procurement of arms and ammunition.
This order of the MHA comes into effect from today i.e., November 13, 2023, and it will stay in place for a period of five years.
