Manipur: Internet Suspended In Churachandpur After Situation Remains Tense Following Fresh Bout Of Violence
The Manipur Government suspended the internet on Friday for five days after violence broke out in Churachandpur.
Internet was suspended in Manipur's Churachandpur on Friday for five days after a fresh spell of violence marred the region over an action taken against a policeman.
Situation in the district remained tense on Friday morning after a mob vandalised the offices of the superintendent of police and the deputy commissioner, set ablaze vehicles used by CAPF the and pulled down the national flag at the SP office complex, an official told PTI.
The notification issued by the Manipur government read: "There is apprehension that some anti-social elements might use social media extensively for transmission of images, posts and video messages inciting the public, which might have serious repercussions for the law and order situation..there is imminent danger for loss of lives/ damage to public or private property and widespread disturbances to public tranquillity and communal harmony as a result of inflammatory material and false rumours."

The fresh violence erupted in the district on Thursday after a head constable of the district police was suspended after he was seen with gunmen in a purported video, an official said, as per the PTI report.
To bring the situation under control, security forces fired several rounds of tear gas shells and used "minimum lethal force" to disperse the agitators.
According to the report quoting locals as saying, one person died and around 30 people were injured in the clash.
7 Security Personnel Suspended For Arms Loot
Seven personnel of the India Reserve Battalion have been suspended for deriliction of duties over the looting of arms and ammunition from the special force's Chingarel camp in Manipur's Imphal East district, as per PTI.
As per an order issued by the commandant of the 5th India Reserve Battalion on Thursday, the suspended personnel have been asked not to leave their headquarters without prior permission.
According to the order, the seven personnel were suspended "grave negligence and dereliction of duties" after arms and ammunition were looted from the camp three days before.

Six people have been arrested and remanded to police custody over the matter, said the Manipur Police on Thursday.
Four Insas rifles, one AK Ghatak, two magazines of SLR and 16 small boxes of 9 mm ammunition looted from the IRB camp have also been recovered.
